Engineering Day

October 1 @ 8:00 am - October 31 @ 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

Engineering Day brings together several school districts for a fun and educational day of STEM competition.  Each year, teams of students compete to create the best functional Rube Goldberg machine.  Students may only work with the supplied set of materials for the project, and they have approximately 3 hours to complete the machine. Students are not aware of the materials until the day of the competition.
This project allows students to work hands on as well as in a group.  It helps to utilize not only their educational skills like science and math, but also interpersonal skills like time management and teamwork.  This event truly aides in making school an enjoyable atmosphere for student and encourages friendly competition.  Winning groups receive medals as well the bragging rights amongst all the competing schools. There are many adults that volunteer their time to make this happen.  SUNY Broome students donate their time to help with judging; several teachers from Broome-Tioga BOCES spend their day setting up, organizing and disbursing materials, and cleaning up after the competition. This event typically takes place in October every year.
