You Be The Chemist Challenge!

October 26, 2015 @ 8:00 am - October 31, 2015 @ 5:00 pm

Dear Educators,

We are writing to ask your help in promoting an exciting opportunity in our area.  The You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The Greater Binghamton region piloted this opportunity last year through a partnership with the Binghamton City School District.  This year, we are excited to expand the program to 5th – 8th grade students in the 15 school districts that comprise the Broome-Tioga BOCES membership, as well as The Catholic Schools of Broome County and any home-school groups in Broome and Tioga counties.
We ask that you share this information with the relevant teachers in your district or group.  Each participating school will need to have a single teacher serve as the point of contact and register their school at the following link: http://challenge.chemed.org/school/create (Select New York from the drop down list of states and Greater Binghamton from the drop down list for Challenge).  If your district has more than one middle school, each school will need to register separately.  Once your school has registered, we will work with you to see that your school receives the Challenge Qualifier, which will determine the students that will be invited to the Greater Binghamton Local Challenge, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 27th from 10 am – 1 pm at SUNY Broome Community College.

If you wish to learn more about the You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge® program, please visit http://www.chemed.org/programs/challenge/.  To access study materials to help prepare students for the Challenge Qualifier and/or Local Challenge, please visit http://www.chemed.org/programs/challenge/study-materials/.

For specific questions about the Greater Binghamton Local Challenge, please send an email to brennandp@sunybroome.edu.

Thank you for your help and we wish you all a very Happy National Chemistry Week!

Sincerely,

Dan and Alison Brennan
